SITE SURVIVAL KIT : KEEP YOUR PROJECT ON TRACK
Running a project on site is no easy task. Unless you’ve run a construction project before then you’ll be learning on the job, so let us share the practical tools and methods the professionals use to get the job done.
A project that runs late on site is costly and mistakes or misunderstandings can be even more so. Learning what to expect, how to plan and how to communicate clearly will give you the best chance of keeping your project on time and, most importantly, on budget.
INTRO - THE BIG PICTURE
Get up to speed on the full construction process from finding your contractors to moving back in. We’ll cover the essential tasks you’ll need to do before work starts.
TOOL 1 - THE INFORMATION PACK
You’ve got a contractor lined up but what information do they need to give you a comprehensive price? We’ll unpack the essential information your contractor needs to prepare a price and explain how this information can be used to manage works on site.
TOOL 2 - THE PRICE REVIEW
You’ve got the prices back from your chosen contractors but do they add up?
We’ll teach you how to review, compare and negotiate to ensure you’ve got the right price (not necessarily the cheapest!) and the best contractor for your project.
TOOL 3 - THE PRE-SITE CHECKLIST
The key to success on site is preparation. From having the right insurance to making sure you’ve got all the correct permissions; not having everything in place before you start can cause major headaches on site, or even stop work altogether. We’ll make sure you have the essential items on your To Do list so you don’t get caught out.
TOOL 4 - THE SITE PROGRAMME & PAYMENT SCHEDULE
Having a programme of works and a corresponding payment schedule is an essential tool for organising works on site. They will set expectations and give everyone involved a structure to refer to. We’ll introduce the key elements and explain how they can be used as a tool to manage changes as they arise and keep everyone on track.
TOOL 5 - THE SITE MINUTES
Site is an evolving situation and it’s hard to keep on top of everything that’s going on. Learn our tried and tested method for clarifying communications to make sure nothing gets missed.
WORKSHOP - SITE SCENARIOS
Constructing any one-off, bespoke project for the first time will inevitably result in unexpected issues. The key to a successful project is learning how to tackle and resolve these issues as they arise.
After introducing the tools we’ll work through real life scenarios to ensure you’re confident to employ your new tools to maximum effect on site!
